Above Board Chamber October luncheons postponed due to Hurricane Ian | News, Sports, Jobs

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Oct 6, 2022) – Due to the effects of last week’s hurricane, the Above Board Chamber of Florida is postponing its October luncheons until further notice. The safety of our residents and the recovery of our community are of the utmost importance at this time. We appreciate everyone’s understanding as Southwest Florida continues to recover.

Once new dates are announced, the Above Board Chamber will bring the best experts in town to provide valuable insight into how the Federal Reserve is handling the current economic situation. Hear their views on interest rates, labor, employment, supply chain, pricing and more during these special events in Naples and Fort Myers.

Shari Bower, Regional Manager of the Miami Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, will be the guest speaker. She is responsible for the Miami Board of Directors and the Travel and Tourism Advisory Council. She previously worked with the New York Federal Reserve.

“I’m going to do an economic outlook and what we see in the data and what needs to happen for inflation to come down,” said Bower. “I’m going to do a bit of expectation around monetary policy and what the Fed is trying to do. I’m going to share a bit of what I’m hearing from people in the industry about what they’re finding. It will be a lot of data, but some anecdotal. These are systematic challenges so they can hear that they are not alone. Few people know that the Atlanta Fed is responsible for Florida.

Amelia Biehl, Ph.D., of Lutgert College of Business, Florida Gulf Coast University will also share her expertise. She is chair of the Department of Economics and Finance at FGCU and was previously a professor of economics at the University of Michigan-Flint. The Empirical Microeconomist has research that has been published in several top academic journals.

Jeanne Sweeney, CEO of Above Board Chamber, is thrilled to have such talents as guest speakers. “It’s a big thing” she exclaimed. “I’m really excited about it. It’s so necessary right now. I love when we can bring in high-level people. I want people to learn. My goal when they come out of there is ‘wow, they learned things.”
