Grid Telecom, the investment vehicle of Greek Independent Electricity Transmission Operator (ADMIE), has assigned internationally recognizable names to the cables linking Crete to the Peloponnese and those that will link Attica to Crete in the future close, with the aim of making them more investor-friendly.

The twin fiber optic cables already operated by Grid Telecom between Crete and the Peloponnese have been named Minoas West and Minoas East, while the twin cable system recently installed in Pachi, near Megara in Attica as part of the interconnection with Crete which is under construction, is named Apollo East and Apollo West.

“Our initiative to give them internationally recognizable names, inspired by Greek mythology, will greatly expand the scope of their commercial use, attracting new commercial partnerships of our company with a telecommunications organization inside and outside the Greek borders,” said Réseau Télécom CEO Giorgos Psirris.

He added that Grid Telecom has an extensive fiber optic network currently exceeding 4,000 kilometers. It is also developing more connections with the Greek islands and neighboring countries.
