Sanawad (Madhya Pradesh): Farmers in Sanawad and its neighboring villages including Rajpura, Khangwara and Chitramod are at odds with the power transmission company over the installation of power transmission towers in their agricultural estate.

Barwah – MP for Sanawad, Sachin Birla, who is seeking compensation for the farmers, intervened in the case on behalf of the farmers and spoke with company officials.

MP Birla made it clear to company executives that the towers should not be installed in the fields until advance compensation has been paid to the farmers.

MLA has discussed the compensation issues in detail with administrative and company officials and aggrieved farmers.

Outlining the outcome of the discussion, MP Birla said that until the farmers get proper compensation, the company will not be allowed to erect towers in the fields. The MP said he would write a letter to senior government officials asking for proper compensation for the farmers. He added that the company should stop installing towers until farmers get compensation for land and crop values.

Previously, company men dug a pit for a tower on the land of farmer Rajpura Omprakash Khodaria. As the works were undertaken without his permission, Khodaria, his wife and other farmers squatted in front of JCB to protest against the digging of pits in the field.

As the news spread, hundreds of farmers from nearby villages reached the Khodaria field.

A large police force was also deployed on the spot to control the situation. The company continued to dig the pit in the presence of the police.

Khodaria told farmers that company officials entered his farm without prior information. He added that he also received no compensation for installing the tower. Khodaria also claimed that the use of heavy machinery also damaged his crops.

The aggrieved farmers demanded prior compensation in lieu of installing the tower and shut down the company’s machinery. MP Birla also reached out to help the farmers and attempted reconciliation between the two parties.

Meanwhile, Farm Leaders Inder Birla, Jai Crora, Mukesh Lonkar, Enterprise Superintendent Engineer Satish Dubey, SDM Anukul Jain, SDOP Vinod Dixit, MR Romde Station Manager, Tehsildar Shivram Kanase, Naib Tehsildar Krishna Patel and a large number of aggrieved farmers were present.

After the deputy’s assurance, the matter was settled peacefully. The company’s chief engineer, Satish Dubey, said senior officials had been made aware of the farmers’ demands.
