NYE to Distribute Vishay’s Highest Energy Density Wet Tantalum Capacitors
Vishay Intertechnology’s new EP2 wet tantalum capacitor offers high capacitance and mechanical robustness for military and avionics.
Available with radial through-hole terminations with a stud mount option in case codes B and C, the EP2 can be used as an exact replacement for competitive parts or as a higher capacity alternative in a mechanically equivalent case to reduce the number of components, saving space and reducing design costs.
Built on Vishay’s proven SuperTan® technology, the device launched today features ultra-high capacitance of 2,700 µF to 48,000 µF in case code B and 3,600 µF to 72,000 µF in case code C. Capacitor voltage ratings range from 25 VDC to 125 VDC. Peak ratings for the EP2 include 9,000 µF at 80 V and 58,000 µF at 35 V in the C-size package. These ratings are 50% and 21% higher, respectively, than the competitive device the closest. The capacitor has a standard capacitance tolerance of ±20%, with a ±10% tolerance available.
Optimized for pulse power and energy retention applications in laser guidance, radar, and avionics systems, the EP2 is housed in a hermetically sealed all-tantalum enclosure for increased reliability. Offering robust mechanical performance, the capacitor has high vibration (high frequency: 20g; random: 19.64g) and mechanical shock (50g) capabilities.
The device operates over a temperature range of -55°C to +85°C, to +125°C with voltage derating, and provides maximum ESR down to 0.017 Ω at 1 kHz and +25°C. The capacitor is available with RoHS compliant tin/lead (Sn/Pb) and 100% tin terminations.
