GRIDCO to undertake reconstruction work on power transmission lines
The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has announced that parts of Accra will experience power cuts from Saturday April 9, 2022 to June 30, 2022.
According to a released statement, the outages are due to GRIDCo’s ongoing power transmission line reconstruction work along Achimota Substation to Mallam Junction Substation.
“The interruption should allow GRIDCo to increase the transmission capacity on each line. This important exercise aims to meet the growing demand for electricity in Accra and its surroundings,” the statement said.
The outage will affect customers served by Ghana Electricity Company (ECG) distribution systems crossing these transmission lines (between Achimota substation in Dzorwulu and Avenor in Accra) during the day, for the period indicated,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Department of Energy previously denied suggestions of an impending blackout in the country after a former energy minister [Kwabena Donkor] had indicated an impending energy crisis due to power generation problems.
