Bearings that operate in conditions with a high degree of contamination must offer many attributes. A highly efficient sealing device is the number one priority. However, these bearings must also be cost effective and allow for easy, quick and convenient mounting and removal, including the ability to counter any misalignment during assembly. To help meet all of these demands, a growing number of OEMs and manufacturing plants are finding the optimal solution in NSK Self-Lube® housings with triple lip seals.
Self-lubricating® Bearing units help users meet the challenges of extreme conditions with a wide range of reliable inserts and housings. Notably, these economical units offer a quick and easy solution for mounting bearings without the need for complex housings or special shaft arrangements. Self-lubricating® The units provide all the functionality needed to easily attach a bearing to a frame and shaft.
The first among the benefits is the specially developed triple lip seal, a one piece molded nitrile seal with three sealing lips. Linked to a protective outer steel pressing (fixed in the outer ring), the triple lip seal enables a highly effective sealing design that protects the bearing in harsh conditions involving dust, sand, water or mud .
Among a growing number of people turning to Self-Lube® bearings with triple lip seal is a manufacturer of barrel washers for cleaning vegetables before processing or packaging. The bearings of the barrel washer sink into the water with each rotation of the drum. Due to water washout and corrosion, it was necessary to replace the bearings every three months. To avoid this costly exercise, the company invited NSK’s team of expert engineers to investigate the problem.
After a comprehensive review of the application and analysis of bearing failures, NSK recommended its Self-Lube® bearings with triple lip seals, ideal for applications where the bearings are exposed to water contamination. The solution produced a significant extension of the lifespan to more than 7 months (improvement of at least 133%). As a result, the barrel washer manufacturer saves ⬠56,600 on bearing replacement and maintenance costs over each six-month operating period.
Self-Lube® bearings consist of an insert and a housing. The inserts are deep groove ball bearings made in the popular 6200 series configuration, with integral design features that make them more functional and versatile than standard ball bearings. Self-lubricating® the inserts are suitable not only for the wide range of RHP housings available from NSK, but also for applications where the user’s housing is preferred.
NSK offers a wide range of sizes as well as various shaft locking devices – including set screw locking, eccentric collar, and taper sleeve locking options. In addition, extended re-lubrication intervals significantly reduce maintenance costs and increase machine productivity.
