Program Manager for the Industrial Pollution Program

Science and Environment Center (CSE) is seeking Deputy Program Managers to continue its work on reducing pollution from thermal power plants and industrial activity across Indian geography. The candidate will work with sectors such as energy, cement, iron and steel, fertilizers and other industrial fields to analyze their performance in terms of environmental compliance, waste management, quality improvement. water use efficiency. The candidate should be prepared to travel, as well as engage with key government and civil society actors to promote environmental compliance.

job description

  • Document and technically analyze the environmental performance of power plants and industrial units using, among others, relevant government data sources.
  • To prepare roadmaps, quantify the progress companies are making toward science-based greenhouse gas emissions targets.
  • Conduct qualitative interviews with power generation companies, power plant operators, industry units and regulators – energy and environment – ​​to learn about the extent of adoption of pollution control technologies, monitoring emissions and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Continually monitor technological developments in the field of industrial pollution and GHG reduction by visiting industries for surveys.
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders from industries, government, policy experts, academics.
  • Participate in relevant conferences, workshops and training programs for comprehensive understanding of air quality management in industrial space in India and globally.
  • Management of a team of two to three researchers.

Qualifications and experience

  • Master’s degree in environmental, mechanical, energy engineering or related disciplines with at least 8-10 years of experience in policy think tanks or industry.
  • Familiarity with some of the energy intensive sectors such as power plants, cement, aluminum or iron and steel, understanding of pollution control technology in industries and stack emission measurement systems .
  • Having prior experience working on emissions assessments, air quality data analysis and data visualization will be considered an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills, including quantitative research skills.
  • Experience working with MS Office suite and Power BI software.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with relevant government and industry stakeholders.
