Windows blocking / locking immediately after startup (new installation)
I’m having trouble with an XPS laptop (9575 2in1 with Kaby Lake / Vega combo chip) that I can barely use outside of safe mode. I did a full Windows reinstall to test Windows 11 and started having issues so reverted back to 10 but never reverted back to a stable system.
When I start the system it seems to load fine, but it crashes anytime between logging in and about 3/4 minutes of use. Everything stops, the screen freezes and the whole system stops responding. No error / BSOD messages ect just a locked system until I shut down.
If I boot into safe mode the system seems to run fine indefinitely which makes me think it is a driver issue, but no driver in my experience causes the system to hang like this.
Do you have any tips to start solving this problem? I want to boot into a checker tool for Samsung m.2 drive but not sure which suitable tool might be? I will also do a memory test, but the Dell memory test did not pass so it seems unlikely to be either one for me.
I have been going through the event viewer, but it is at the limit of my comprehension and I see nothing other than the system reporting the forced power off events and minor errors.
I have also done several full erases and reinstalls of Windows 10 but that doesn’t seem to matter.
Appreciate any advice on likely culprits or advice on which diagnostics to run to try to find one.
Thank you for your time!
